About

This Blog is run by two students at Miami University, studying Geography and Anthropology. We have started this blog as part of an assignment within an American Studies/Black World Studies class. We will be posting different ideas of interest based upon the interpretation of black women in the media, within the U.S and the U.K. The posts will focus mainly on the displays of black women within sports, music, and TV shows! We hope to find dominant imagery within the media of Black women, whether negative or positive. Yet the project will start by highlighting the negative imagery of Black women noted by Mgdami (2009), as discussed in the first blog post. We want our readers to comment on the blogs in order to further the study, as all views are important within our analysis and conclusions. We want the reader to notice things that they do not normally, to start looking at media more precisely to note how Black women are portrayed, and the types of Black women that are seen in abundance.

This blog has been written in part fulfilment of the assessment criteria for a class in the Black World Studies Department at Miami University. However, the views expressed here are those of the authors alone and do not represent the views of the Black World Studies Department, the American Studies Department, its staff, or Miami University.

All references that have aided our blog posts are displayed at the end of each post.
